MCVITIES JAFFA COOKIES

Is it a biscuit? Is it a cake? Is it a bit of both?  Can you take one great thing and mix it with another and get something better or some sort of hybrid inbred mongrel that's terrible?  Read on and find out.

I wasn't convinced by this idea. Generally cookies with something in the middle are a terrible idea, they really don't have any of the best features of cookies - the crunch, the snap, that hard but soft bite. McVities are not particularly well known for cookies and they've not been impressive.

My first bite and in fact whole cookie wasn't a great start, but ever the hero to bring you real insight into the cookies, I soldiered on and they were definitely a grower.  The orangey centre is excellent, dare I say it more orangey than the Jaffa Cake itself without being overpowering.  The chocolate was decent too, but the star is the cookie, it's soft and chewy but it feels right with the flavours going on around it. By the third cookie I was seriously impressed.

Six in a pack for a reasonable £1.79 in Asda means they're comparable to the deity of cookies that is the Fox's half coated cookie - and I'd be happy to get these as a replacement if they were out of stock on an order.

A really pleasant surprise and would definitely buy again and look out for them.

9/10
